Why we’re leaving and moving to Greece. And why I’m not really quitting photography.

These are the questions I’ve been hearing most lately:
Why are you leaving and moving to Greece? Are you giving up photography?
The answers are not simple, but they are honest. They come after years of reflection, doubt, and deep inner searching.
Beneath the plane trees, thoughts found peace
In all my travels to Greece — and there were many (thank you, iPhone Photos, for keeping track!) — I fell in love with the plane trees. Not just for their shade, but for the peace I feel under their leaves.
In that breeze, under their calm shelter, my thoughts finally had room to breathe.
That’s where I found the courage to ask:
What do we truly want? What really matters? What makes us feel alive?
The essence is not to have, but to feel
We came to realize that we no longer seek to have. We want to feel. To slow down.
To enjoy a coffee by the sea in the morning, not rushing, but being.
To connect with people. To breathe. To witness a sunset and not feel like we’re wasting time.
We’re not moving to Greece to “get rich”. Some people warned us that it’s hard to make money there — and maybe it is. But that’s not why we’re going.
Money, if it comes, will just be a byproduct. What we seek is a life in alignment with our values. A life where we can share our love for this country — through words, flavours, beauty, and authenticity.
So… what about photography?
No, I’m not quitting photography.
But I need to reinvent it.
After 10 years of family photography, and 21 years since I fell in love with the camera, I need to step away from the patterns. From the workflow. From the checklists.
I want to feel the image again. I want to create from a place of awe and wonder — not routine.
Because yes… we need a bit of WOW in our lives.
And what we’re building in Greece — will be all about that. From the smallest detail to the biggest experience, we want it to leave you inspired.
We are simply starting a new chapter.
Photography will still be with me. But it will come from a deeper place.
From a space where every memory we create together will mean more.
More presence. More honesty. More beauty.
With love and gratitude,
Gabriela
