Between Nafpaktos and Galaxidi. We pulled over. We stayed longer than planned.

We stumbled upon Agios Nikolaos by accident. It wasn't starred on the map or mentioned in travel guides. But maybe that's exactly why it remained in our minds.
It's a small coastal village tucked between Nafpaktos and Galaxidi, on a stretch of coastline that most people drive through without stopping, part of what's called the Delphi Riviera.
It is a simple village, and a simple place. And perhaps that's why it left such a strong impression.
We didn't plan to stop
We were on the road when a tiny white chapel on a small islet just offshore caught our eye. No discussion. We just pulled over.
Within minutes we were walking down toward the sea, listening to the waves, with that particular feeling you get in Greece when time slows down.
Agios Nikolaos Church sits right on the water, glowing in the light of the Corinthian Gulf. We filmed it, and that short video holds more of the feeling of that afternoon than any description could. At least for us it does.
Why it's worth the detour
Not because it's spectacular. Because it's real. A place where you might end up sitting with a freddo espresso on a terrace, no laminated menu in sight, just someone bringing you coffee with a smile.
Greece isn't only about where you go. It's about how you allow yourself to stop.
If you're driving between Nafpaktos and Galaxidi, or coming from Delphi toward the coast, Agios Nikolaos is barely a detour, maybe ten minutes off the main route. Take it.

A note from where we are now
We live ten minutes from here. Agios Nikolaos is now part of our everyday geography, one of those spots we bring people to when we want to show them what this coastline is actually like, away from the obvious stops. If you stay with us at Orama Oikos, there's a good chance we'll end up here together at some point.
